To gain experience, Chris began to conduct several local community orchestras, as well as the WAAPA-based Faith Court Orchestra, working at his post with the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), and developing performances with the Swan Philharmonic. While this increasing work load was taking its toll, Chris's reputation as a skilled and sympathetic conductor was growing.

Two highly creditable local performances were the Grieg Piano Concerto, with the extraordinary piano prodigy, Shuan Hern Lee, playing with the Metropitan Symphony Orchestra (MetSO), and the Beethoven Piano Concerto No 4 with the acclaimed pianist Thomas Hecht, playing with the Faith Court Orchestra.  At this early stage of his career, this latter performance probably took a great deal more courage to deal with than anything else thus far.

The clips included here give some idea of the enormity and success of these undertakings .
